We are in the process of preparing a night shelter in Kathmandu. This will be a safe and clean environment for children who would normally be sleeping on the street. The building will also be a base for us to then facilitate the learning of life skills, from learning to cook and even to simple time keeping!

This building will have 20 beds, a kitchen, a caretaker always on hand and a common area for games and informal classes. We plan to involve the children in the running of the house, giving them responsibility for their own environment. This means that they will be involved in the cooking and cleaning, and we believe that by showing them respect and trust, this will generate these same feelings in the house. We will then use time in the evening for informal classes given by volunteers.

At the moment, we only have enough money to get the shelter established, however, for the rent of the building, for the caretakers, for the evening meals and for electricity and water, we do need some help. We estimate that the costs could be up to US $1000 a month. If you can help us with this project, any donation would be invaluable to us, and would help make this project a reality.
